When my mother in law past away, I inherited all her quilting supplies. Going through her things I found hand sewn squares and put them aside not knowing what to do with them since they were all different sizes. When my daughter was pregnant with her first baby, I took out the squares and all the fabric that was in the bag with them and went to work. I took the largest square (which was the middle one) measured it and then framed the other 4 squares to make them the same size. Then I just used the left over fabrics for the solid squares. I backed it with a cheater cloth I found in another one of her bags. It was a very sentimental quilt to make for her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
