All these GORGEOUS shiny Singers and my poor Alvah with her mostly gone shellac, chipped paint, and dingy damaged decals pales in comparison. I know my machine is well over 100 years old and still sews beautifully but the whole image thing is the pits! Maybe if I just blur my eyes a bit more when I look at her I'll feel better. lol
I would not worry about this. Your old machine probably makes better stitches anyway. That is why you use her isn't it. I have a red singer just waiting for me to clean and put back together so that I can sew my quilt tops with her. I am the one that is just too intimidated to start putting her back together. So be proud of your machine. You do not always have to have the most up to date machine to do the quilting.
