My good friend Marie started to make her son a quilt when he was 12 years old. Adam is now 30+ and she never did finish that quilt. She asked me if I would finish it for Adam, and showed me a few blocks and nestled in a bag were all the fabrics to "keep going". I reluctently said yes because when I saw the few blocks she showed me, they were, well for a lack of a better description.....BAD! But I didn't have the heart to tell her that they were almost impossible to work with. They were off center, the seams were anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 inch within the same block. some had puckers in them and none of the blocks were even the same size. So I went to work and started squaring them up. I have already done the three large star blocks and the small half triangle blocks. U can see in the first picture all the scraps from squaring up just those few blocks. I have many more to go. I decided to not try and fix the puckers because even though they are not "perfect" (really what is?), they were made with her love and devotion to her son and I could not take that away. I already have in my mind on how I am going to design this. I think I'm going to use all the rail fence blocks in the middle, the large star block center top and the two other star blocks on the bottom corners. All the rest I'll fill in as I go along. I will gladly take suggestions. Oh and by the way - that's Bailey in the third picture helping me.
