Too funny! I do tech support (when I have a job) and stuff like that really does happen. My first tech support job was at Microsoft, supporting Outlook, Outlook Express, etc. and I had a co-worker who would say things like that with an absolute straight face. It wasn't until I heard him tell someone in great detail how to put a mouse and keyboard in the trash can that I finally got it. I was a bit quicker when he did stuff like that afterwards. He got away with it because he had been there a long time and could do it with such finesse.
