This quilt was an experiment in reverse applique. I put the orange for the butterflies down first, then I put black over the top. I appliqued around the outside of the black, capturing the orange inside. Then I cut slits and opened up the wings. I know it's hard to see, but the white spots are seed beads that I added after the quilt was finished. The little things in the middle are the cocoons. I call this quilt "Metamorphosis".
