Maybe a pineapple quilt? Use lots of different values of the orange and purple.
Or maybe a strip quilt using strip sets of light to dark of each color. Then cut into triangles and stitch together. An old book called Strips that sizzle has great ideas for this type of quilt.
Or play with a strip tube ruler.
I think the most important question to ask to receipient is the brightness level they want. I personally would do a google image search of purple + orange quilts.
