That's actually a different copyright law (falls under "distribution" because it's a classrom). It's kind of like buying a movie on DVD then showing it on a projector and charging people to watch it. If you've ever watched a DVD you've seen the FBI warning. Same thing.

Plus of course the store wants to sell more patterns. But the sales are a secondary reason to infringing on a distribution of copywritten material.
