i overlap the two pieces of the edges of fabric. i usually just want a small wave. lay then straight and make sure the pieces have the same amount of over/under. then a gentle wavy curve cut with a rotarty cutter. start and stop with at least an inch of straight cut so it is easier to match. then just sew right sides together. i do not use pins with this method.
