Why do so many people seem so focused on buying fat quarters? I do scrappy quilts--and will continue to do them, with scraps, mostly, not purchased fat quarters.

So, I'm wondering, what do you all do with your fat quarters? Do you buy more than one of the same, and if so, why not just buy 1/2 yard or more of yardage?
I have many FQ because I use them for turning Twenty Quilts or I make ,I call them Turning 10s or even turning 5. They are so fun to use. I might have close to 200 of them. I make a FQ out of scraps from a quilt too.
