What a wonderful thing to do.
Have you tried shipping companies instead or maybe if you have someone you know in a UPS or Fedex store that might be willing to donate to a special cause even by sharing the cost with you and you can ship with them by air. Try to approach some of these air shipping companies, you'll be surprised sometimes of what you might get.
