My suggestion is to get a lap hoop. My favorite isn't made any more; it is a wooden hoop that swivels on a wooden ball. The closest thing I could find online is the Grace lap hoop. Allbrands.com and other places sell it for $99. Here is a website about it:

My first frame was the PVC type floor frame. It was nice in that it was lightweight, easily moved, and easily assembled and disassembled. My big problem with it is that it was hard on my back.
I really like my adjustable lap hoop because (1) it leaves both hands free to quilt, and (2) it is easy to adjust for ease of quilting.
If you get a hoop, be sure that the hoop size is not too big. It is actually easier to quilt on a smaller hoop (floor or lap) than a big one because of the reach involved.
