I had to learn to follow what is mentioned by myself--that is, I read this suggeston later. In the "Dear Jane" blocks that I have drafted and made, I changed from the 4-1/2 patterns to 6 in because I found the smaller ones entirely too small to handle. Kansas Trubles has many pieces, and you did it perfectly... I find that everysuch block needs a base, drawn out pattern to check every piece against while in construction. Also, consider whether paper piecing would be the better way to do a block instead of traditional piecing.
