also...whomever your puppy is jumping on needs to be told not to give him/her attention until he/she has calmed down

attach the leash before you open the door to guests...a tiny quick yank on leash will get his/her attention just prior to jumping...reinforce w/ a stern command word you have chosen ("no" works but "down" would be better since the command will train him/her to keep paws on ground)...as your puppy listens reward w/ a small treat

TO THE OP: sorry you kinda got hijacked...however heres my 2 cents to you...lol

crate training works wonders...i started mine from the first moment i brought her home...however since you might choose to start now...try at bedtime...he/she will probably whine but will get used to the crate as his/her "room"

as far as feeding...read the side of the dog food bag carefully...some puppy foods list rations as twice a day amounts...some only list total for day...any dogfood containing real ingredients are best (altho they tend to be more expensive it is better for your baby dog)...i fed mine 2 times a day...once in morning and once in evening (12 hours apart give or take) (everyday same time i fixed my coffee/and every evening when i ate dinner)...i picked her bowl up 30 minutes after i set it down...she ate what she wanted but only in the 30 minute time slot...made it much easier to gauge her potty needs...(i had no poopy accidents in the house)

fresh H2O at all times except 1 hour before bed when it got picked up so she wouldnt have to go in the middle of the nite...

this is pretty much what everyone is saying so dont know if there are any new tidbits in here however....

have fun with your new canine child :-D
