Of course it's strong enough to use. I can't have a piece of furniture that is for decoration only, must be multi-purpose. With the stiff/straight back, it's not too comfortable on the back. I've sat in it for 20 minutes at a time about 3 times since finishing it last night. Now, mind you my hips and thighs are covering the wooden frame and probably taking the brunt of the weight!
