Happy Treadler, that is a very nice looking machine. Looks like a Morse I had, but it is not a class 15 machine. Here is a link to a site that features a Universal made by White. It looks more like your machine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aNIFWXWhzU

I think Brother also made a machine they called a Universal. And you are right, there is a 15 clone made in Japan that they called the Universal too, but remember the class 15 machines had the tension on the face plate.

Hummmm, one thing I did notice right off in the video was that the slide plate is on the side and not the front. The one I have also has a potted motor, and spool pin & bobbin winder pin difference.

I also joined the vintagejapanese yahoo group, and there's a few on there that really resemble mine. Oh, and then there's the "Made in Japan" stamp.

Now I don't know what I have, but I like it! ha ha
