GrannyQ - Yes, I have 70 blocks pieced and quilted. I cut my batting 8-1/2" and quilting as I go along. I will add the backing when the blocks are sewn together and just do the straight stitching. Much easier for me. Some of the Dear Jane quilters are doing this method.
