From your description, I am wondering if you mean what we call a lovey? When I make a baby quilt for a present, I always make a second one - same fabrics - that is about 20x20. There are times that the regular size ones are too big to take - in the car, as the walk around, etc. The mini are the right size for them to cuddle with and carry around without tripping over it all the time.

I crocheted blankets with teddy bears on them, and mad a small single bear to be carried around instead of the whole, big blanket.
