Love it!! I wouldnt go wild with colors - I think if you get the othr squares too busy it would take away from the beautiful blocks.

The blocks tell a story so make one up!! Use cream or muslin for alternate blocks and embroider you own story depicted in the blocks. Maybe edge these squares with design similar to the trim on the blocks.

If you do other blocks with designs from pictures I would do them all in black and creams but putting at least 4 mini blocks on the one block. this way the large sampler blocks arent taking away from printed blocks.

I would try to make two quilts otherwise Use all the blocks for a larger queen or King size quilt. You could use toile in black and cream for backing.

OH now I see your problem - as I write this more ideas keep popping in my head lol I do like the window idea also, Maybe you could find a print with outdoor prints such as trees flower garden etc in lack in cream for your alternate blocks.
