Have just finished putting together a batik quilt -- it is from swaps done on this thread, and two batik swaps with Dagny (send in 12 the same, get 12 different ones back). I have to thank everyone again for all the beautiful blocks so many of you did for me. I think it turned out magnificent and gorgeous and couldn't have done it without all the great blocks sent to me.

It is huge -- 9 blocks wide by 7 blocks long, plus sashing and borders. As I was laying it out, I decided that I would do strip quilting, the quilt as you go method. That is why the back is in strips. I figured if I had to cut up fabric, why buy 9 or 10 yards of something when I had all sorts of strips that could be used! I didn't have much trouble until the last three strips, by then it was fairly heavy! It is a quilt for me, so it doesn't bother me that the back is not batiks. And really easy to quilt because all you ever have under the throat of the machine is a maximum of 24" or so of material, all the quilted parts move to the left.

back is strips

Now I really have to repaint the bedroom! The burnt orange leather-look doesn't go with the new quilt!
