This story came from the Snopes site and is a dangerous thing to be passing off as a remedy for burns.
My daughter was burned with boiling water at age 7 and airlifted to Shriner`s Burn Institute in Cincinatti, I saw first hand the suffering children went thru when they arrived and had to be "debried", which means foreign substances had to be scrubbed out of their wounds after well meaning parents had covered their burns with butter, flour or many other "home remedy" substances. It was drilled into us that nothing but cool water should ever be used for temporary relief until medical attention is recieved. Anything else can cause infection. If you`ve used flour on a (minor) burn without consequence, it`s likely that the skin was not broken and the flour was not introduced to an open wound. In which case, cool water would have done the same job.
Thank you for posting this, carlasuewho! I hope your daughter recovered well and has forgotten the pain.
