That title sums it up :)

Remember the quilt that member Joy Voltenburg did with the trapunto Sunflowers? I had asked her if she was going to show it, and she did so I made semi-arrangements to go and hopefully meet her there. I had never been to Decatur IL before (about 2 hours S of me), and on the way down on the same road that the show was supposedly on, I saw a sign that said "Quilt Show". I thought it was directions to Decatur, but it was a different smaller show so I thought why the heck not. Nice little show about 50 or so quilts/items. Nothing spectacular but a nice visit.

Continued down the road and I had the directions, address, and phone number for Joy on a piece of paper conveniently back at home on my desk. Typical. I got temporarily misplaced because the show was "on the corner of 51 and 36" and I was ON 51 so how could I miss it? Well I did because 51 is divided into north bound lanes and south bound lanes and separated by a few blocks - I was south bound and the show was on the north bound 51. But I found it.

Joy - I asked around for you, I did find two people who knew you (one was a gloved guild docent who graciously showed me the back of your quilt), and the other was one of the shop owners (not Maryann, but one of the others at the same shop) and she graciously walked around with me a few minutes to see if we could find you. No such luck.

I DID see your Sunflower quilt and it is SPECTACULAR!! I was being the good quilt afficionado and voting on the quilts in the various categories and at first I thought #628 was a hands down easy choice. I kept looking at the others though to be fair and I spotted another just to the right of yours and I liked that a lot, but the trapunto work on yours was the deciding factor so it got my vote. Then the nice gloved guild docent told me that the other that I had picked as my 2nd choice was ALSO YOURS! Silly me ... I had not really been reading the tags. I knew you had an entry, I thought it was a single entry and I knew what it looked like so I didn't "need" names. DUH! Then she told me there were TWO MORE. DUH again for not even opening the program - quilts were a callin - who's got time to read??

I did indeed vote for my favorite quilt of the whole show and I have to say there were many stunning quilts there but one definately stood out. It had the most gorgeous Sunflower trapunto work and equally magnificient quilt work. Bravo Joy. It was a pleasure to see this beauty in person. Sorry we didn't get to meet I would have liked to congratulate you myself.

And no, I didn't take my camera because Hubby had it at the shop :(

For those of you who have not seen, or don't remember (as if you could forget) Joy's Sunflower Stars quilt - the link is below.
