Anytime I would ask for something I always got it the carpenter's way. That guy would do things his way, if I said something my DH would always say '' He knows what he is doing''. One day I just registered for a woodworking course at the Adult Education. My project was the railing for a 37' gallery. I repeated the course to make the slats. In June I asked him if he wanted to put that up or if I would do it by myself. Never had any problem after that, he knew that if I didn't get exactly what I wanted I could use a saw and a hammer! Carpentry and sewing are alike , the only difference a 5/8 or 1/4 seam.
Funny you say that Marthe, my husband is a carpenter and he is astounded that I (who won't touch a bandsaw or a router) am now measuring and cutting and puzzling where to cut to get correct finished dimensions for my quilts. HE says it's like carpentry, too!
