Billy refers to "Liquid Gold". I just use sewing machine oil for cleaning the machine...inside and out. I just slather it on, let it sit for awhile and then I wipe it off. Then I give it a couple coats of Turtle Wax. For all of the chrome and metal parts (even the brass medallion) I use "No. 7 Chrome & Metal Polish" that I bought at Walmart in the auto section.
Thank you, this machine is listed as Singer 1904 made in New York. It has all original parts and it has worked hard all it's life. It amazes me how they can remain in such excellent condition and I bought it mainly to sew on and do FM quilting. I only want to maintain the condition she is in now, not restore. The cabinet is original too and needs work but I don't want to spend money as these old ladies are not worth much in my area. I was told by a collector it is rare to see the Spinks decal on a 1904 model 15 treadle. Any comments on that?
