To the best of my knowledge there is nothing down in the French Quarter, up Canal Street or around the river walk. You can ride the trolly but that mainly takes you up to the Garden district which is residential. I may be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans (pre Katrina and after) and haven't seen any quilt shops.

Your friend may not be staying down there (around the French Quarter) though. These are a couple sites that come up in a Google search with a New Orleans address, but they may not be anywhere near where she's staying;

I absolutely love New Orleans for so many reasons. I hope your friend has a wonderful time. Just tell her to stay on the beaten path and be careful after dark. ;)
