Yes, you can use your bed, but I'd go get one of those cardboard cutting mats from WalMart otherwise I'd be pinning the spread, plus it'll give you something to tape the backing to so it will stay flat. Pin the overflow to the bedspread and release it after you get most of the pinning done.
