It is a fine gift. When my good friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, my DH called me to come to her house right away and bring a quilt, which I did. All I had on hand was a rather simple quilt. She stood there wrapped in it and crying on a hot summer day. Last summer was her 5th since. Another friend was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. We gave her a scrappy quilt we had on hand. She, too, is still going strong years later. A quilt to show your love NOW does not need to be fancy. I am convinced that quilts aid survival. Doctors acknowledge that attitude makes a big difference.
BTW, we keep a couple of quilts on hand now.
