Yes its true!! They're called Bible-back cysts for that very reason. I had one in my wrist once. I was in the shower and saw what I thought was a spider on my arm. I reflexively did the "spider dance" where you flail all over the place, and accidentally wapped my wrist on the shower wall. Got a cyst that lasted weeks till my Chiropractor took care of it for me.
By the way, the "spider" was a tiny clump of hair my DH had left on the shower brush!
