Wood can stain the fabrics ... so make sure its a polyurethane finish, that has cured for several days before any real volume of fabric is placed on it.
I cut cardboard to line the wire shelves on the areas I have a problem with fall through. Posterboard worked well also. I like the wire shelves for the fabric load because of air circulation.
