It's 24" square, the background is pieced and then embellished and FMQd and the gull was created independently then appliqued on. I cut the gull shape from fusible wadding backed with interfacing then laid on each feather (cut from fabric scraps with scissors over several evenings!) When I was happy with the layout, I pressed gently with the iron to fuse each feather in place temporarily then FMQd each individual one to accentuate the shape and leave the pointy end flying free! The eye is a gold sequin and a black seed bead. I plan to enter this into a competition at a national quilt show near me next March, themed "Flying High" hence the title. :-D
OMG! great adaptation.
