I need your quilting wisdom. I want to make this raw edge quilt from a layer cake for myself and I would love to put minky on the back.

To do that, could I just cut 10" squares of minky? Or should I use flannel as the backing fabric and then once it is finished sew minky on the back? Then the flannel would be in the middle and serve as batting. Does that even make sense?
