A walking foot is the absolute best purchase you can make for quilting. I have an older Pfaff and purchased a Brother foot that works just fine. There generics out there that will work also. The darning foot is also used to do FMQ and it works like a dream. You can also get a generic darning foot or a "Big Foot" which is for FMQ also. There is a site,

That said, I wouldn't be without my walking foot for quilting and I'm learning how to FMQ with the darning foot and having a wonderful time. Hope you do too!
