Sometimes they are called "dangerous." Yesterday my DH walked into the room, I turned to look at him and yup..got my finger between the walking foot and the rest of the needle apparatus. Nice moon shaped cut. Lesson learned: Take your foot off the foot control before you turn around to talk to someone.
OUCH!! I once managed to sew through my finger. It was a long time ago and I'm still not sure how I managed it,but I made sure it NEVER happened again!
