Isn't that why we always piece with neutral thread?
I don't always piece with a neutral thread ..... Recently I did something with black and white I found that black thread showed less against the white fabric than the white thread with the black fabric.

Frayed edges of the fabrics need to be trimmed off too. The quilt I trimmed tonight had black fabrics in it .... you bet I wanted those things trimmed to risk showing thru.

And one other thing to watch for are the clumps of threads that seem to gather together ... you wouldn't want those balls in your sandwich. Quite a lump!!
