I used dryer sheets in the case and kept it closed for a while. That didn't totally do it so I sprinkled baking soda in the case and put it out in the sun for several days. Also discovered the oil drip absorber sheet underneath the machine was nasty too!! This was under the screw-on base plate. Changing that helped more than anything! Good Luck!
