I was taught this same method except for tacking down the centers with the machine and sewing the "windows" with the machine. I'm doing one now that I designed using the cathedral window block and the secret garden block. I'm using an oriental type of fabric with gray, white and red and black. It's turning out quiet nice. I do the windows by hand and it is relaxing. I won't try the machine on the windows until the next quilt so that it'll be all the same. Thanks for the tut
