I would croak before I'd spend anywhere near that kind of money on a sewing machine. Not with all the great vintage machines that can be had for $150 or way less... and they won't die on you after a handful of years.
I'd take the money I saved and take a quilting cruise, or go to a camp or retreat, and buy a scad of fabric and good thread and batting. Just my two cents...
