We usually watch the item and then in the last 45-60 seconds (we are on DSL) put in the highest amount we would pay, sometimes we win, sometimes we don't but it sure is a great way to get it for less than what you were willing to pay for it. Bidding bit by bit can be too costly because emotions come in to play and you sometimes outspend your budget.
