I think you can do pp blocks by folding on the line and sewing along by the fold. It seems like the person I saw demo it sewed the first seam through the paper to anchor it in place, then along the fold after that. So you only had that one seam to tear away when you were done. I've not tried it though (I've only done a couple of pp'd blocks).
