oh, i forgot to mention the physical limitations which also need to be taken into account before that investment. getting a regular stand up long arm machine you will spend hours on your feet- hands clenched around handlebars, shoulders held stiff- it is a physically challenging job and can wear you out. if you already have problems with shoulders, wrists or knees you may find it is not (your cup of tea)
there really are reasons for it to cost what it does to pay someone to quilt for you. it is physical labor
