to see what he could see

WOW! Ok, you really have some talent there. Of course I’m not a publisher but I do read a lot! I really think you should pursue this.
I have heard you can protect your copy-rights by mailing a copy to yourself. It will contain the complete works and a date stamp (from the postal cancelation mark) to prove when you wrote it. On the outside of the sealed envelope, maybe on the back, write the title of the works contained. File the retuned mailed envelope with a separate copy of the complete work found inside the envelope for future reference.
Now… I did a Google search for children’s book publishers and found thousands! There was even a site for “How To”. Do a bit of research and find several publishers that you want to summit your work to. Include a cover letter that explains that this work could include a quilt pattern for the story. You might find yourself in a dual market. Children’s and Quilting.
