I have a pattern from Connecting Threads (Midnight Shadows Quilt) that looks like it will make pinwheels as part of the pattern. They advise you to cut out squares, then cut along diagonal, then sew to others that you have cut in this way. I then saw a pinwheel pattern for a tablerunner online and that pattern advised the same. (

Isn't this just the same as putting two colors face together, then making the sewing lines and sewing? I haven't worked it out yet but can't imagine why it would be better to cut first and then sew. Anyone have any ideas on this?
