When you make them, use your walking foot to sew the multiple layers together and start at the thickest end. I just finished the body of a baby quilt and I'm getting pretty good at making them! Look in the tutorial section of this site for instructions. They are easy. After you sew your seams, iron them out flat rather than to the side to get rid of some of the bulk. You appear to be very familiar with 3D pinwheel quilts....do you know about their care afterwards? Do they hold up well after washing and drying?
