It's so much lighter and works good. It must be cotton and not cotton/poly to play well with the cotton quilting fabric. Sometimes it's hard to find, so when I do see it, I tend to buy several yards.

I use preshrunk flannel in my scrappy quilts instead of batting to lighten them up. With all of the seams they are already quite heavy.
