I've been looking at posts on this board for label ideas and one that I liked was making a label to fit in a bottom corner of a quilt...with the binding actually holding it in place on 2 sides. The top is the only place where it needs to be hand sewn. My quilt is already quilted so I'm choosing this method to help the label stay more secure. Not wanting it to look too plain, I added a border of fabric on the top which matches the border on the front of the quilt.

My sewing machine doesn't do embroidery stitches so I figured that I would use a permanent pen to write on it. I got the idea that I could write what I wanted it to say on paper then slide the paper underneath the top layer of fabric of the label so that I could trace the words...hoping that this way I wouldn't mess up the spacing, etc. On a practice piece I discovered that it's harder to write smoothly on the fabric than I thought.

My questions: The pens below are what I'm considering...are these the best to use or would you recommend something else? Anyway to make it easier to write smoothly on the fabric? And other ideas about this label will be welcomed!!

I'm so pumped! My quilt should arrive back to me in the mail tomorrow. I've got the binding all ready for it. It's for our youngest son's 21st birthday. We're giving him the quilt Easter Sunday. I'll tell you more about the marvelous story about this quilt when I post pictures of it completed with my son.

blessings, Karen

Label will go in the bottom corner of the quilt once I write on it then be attached when I sew on the binding

These are the 2 pens that I'm thinking of using...are these the best to use?
