I watched Sewing with Nancy last saturday on PBS, her guest made nyb blocks by appliquing the inner circle and the outer piece to the paper pieced arc. It kind of sounds like a bit of a cheat, but they looked beautiful. The method is called Appli-curves, if you go to the sewing with nancy website you'll see that she offers a book and cd on this method.
