I haven't read all the posts, but I think the block is Hole in the Barn Door, or a variation of it, that is set on point. It is a treasure, for sure. My granny who quilted, lost enough of her eyesight, that she could only see light from dark. Her youngest daughter did not have a good sense of blending colors, but her scrap quilts turned out great.
