My nephew married a girl from Japan. She is a beautiful girl. She was very excited about their gift. It was quite a deal getting it done. I had researched customs of Japanese weddings and learned a lot of interesting things that I wanted to incorporate into the wall hanging.
OK so I have it done and ready to quilt.
Then I decide to change my needle since I had used the one I had in for some time. I take the needle out and put the new one in and am turning the screw that holds the needle in when the screw just breaks off and the needle falls out. Now I am not only upset but in a panic as I only have a week to get it done before we go to WI for the wedding.
I call the place that services Vikings and tell him what I've done. He says to bring it out for him to see. Once there he tells me that he has never seen this happen before and that he will need to order some parts. Oh great, now what am I to do?
He loaned me a machine to get the quilt done! I take it home to get busy and it is the most plain Jane machine I've ever used. I'm spoiled with all the bells and whistles I have on my Designer SE. I didn't even know how to wind a bobbin on this thing. After about an hour or so I got comfortable with this machine and did the quilting. What a nightmare. But I was happy with the end result as was the newlyweds.

Close up of the quilting. I found this pattern by searching sashiko designs
