that's why i love quilts. each one tells a story. sometimes it is filled with love, other times, with hate. some are filled with a story of plenty, others, a time of want. sometimes they tell of amazing skill--sometimes, sheer determination. sometimes they tell about a person's quilting education--or the lack of it. maybe that's what the "QP" don't get--the story in each one. yeah. real quilters get it...

Whenever I meet some of these "Experts", I always ask them if they've seen the Museum exhibit of the Gee's Bend Quilts. Now "those quilts" will send the quilt police into catatonic shock.
the gee's bend quilts are a tour de force! i love quilts made from sheer determination and will, that warm and shelter those they are made for. talk about ingenuity--the quilts speak to the ability of people to "make do", and do it beautifully. i think i'm assigning myself a quilt made of "found fabric" in the house. no purchases allowed! i know there are some old flannel shirts lurking, and some old work pants... hmmm....
The quilt museum in Lincoln,NE has some beautiful quilts.

But they also have others that look like they were made by someone full of hate, torn almost apart in shreds by wild dogs, left out in the rain for a month, grew uglier by the minute, stained all over with mud and worse and then sold for millions of dollars to people who have way too much money and way too little sense!

But others are fine examples of craftsmanship. You can see which way I lean but I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just wonder what the 'quilt police" would say. They would probably have heart attacks!
