I must be the only person on earth who doesn't want to live with hardwood flooring. I just carpeted my sewing room and have no problem with it. It vaccuums up easily and I don't have any problem with pins. I use a magnetic pin dish, so dropped pins are kept to a minimum. I don't think it should be a problem, but you might have to clean up more than with a bare floor.
