This method will give me smaller pinwheels than if I make the HST's by drawing a line through the middle and stitching on each side of the line. My question is what size pinwheel do you like and how big do you think is getting too big in a toddler sized quilt, about 36x56? And now that I have asked that I want to know what size do you think is good for a toddler bed?

Thanks, Linda
When doing the pinwheel project a member came up with a formula that seems to work.
If you start with 5" squares doing the sew around the edge method the formula is:

Size of starting block -.5 x1.4 - .5 =
or 5" -.5" x 1.4 - .5" = 5.8"
Trim block to 5.5" I THINK that is the unfinished size so the finished size will be 5".

I think that would be a good size pinwheel for a toddler quilt but I would make the quilt bigger. Kids grow fast and I'd want the quilt to be used many, many years!
48x60 minimum and maybe even 60 x 72 would be better I think.
